Credentialing is the process insurance carriers use to verify that a therapist is qualified to be included on their panels and treat covered patients. It is required for all PTs, OTs, and SLPs who bill Medicare, and requirements for commercial payers vary by insurance. StrataPT does not provide credentialing services. You can handle credentialing yourself, or work with a third-party credentialing specialist.Documentation Index

PTAs and COTAs do not require credentialing. They provide care under the supervision of a PT or OT and are not required to be credentialed by insurance carriers.

What to Expect During Credentialing
Medicare credentialing typically takes 60–90 days. Once a PT, OT, or SLP application is accepted, the provider may begin treating Medicare patients. Claims submitted during the approval period are placed on a credentialing hold and released once the application is approved. Commercial payer timelines and requirements vary. Claims submitted during the commercial credentialing process will typically process as out-of-network until in-network participation is granted. If credentialing is in progress during onboarding, forward copies of all approvals to your Account Manager as they come in so that we can remove any holds and confirm claims are processing correctly.
