Kiosk Check-In transforms a standard tablet or laptop in your waiting room into a self-service check-in station. Patients can tap in, complete intake forms, and access the payment portal on their own device — or on yours.
Access: Any staff member with schedule access can activate Kiosk mode. No special permissions are required.

How Kiosk Check-In Works

When you activate Kiosk mode from the Schedule, StrataEMR locks down access to the full EMR on that device. Patients see only the check-in interface — your staff credentials and patient records stay protected. Once a patient checks in, their status on the Schedule automatically updates to Arrived and Waiting. No manual update needed. If your practice has multiple facilities, Kiosk mode applies only to patients scheduled at the facility tied to that device.

Activate Kiosk Mode

  1. Open the Schedule from the blue Menu Bar.
  2. Click the Kiosk View icon in the schedule toolbar. The device immediately enters Kiosk mode.

Clicking Kiosk View will log your staff account out of StrataEMR on that device. The best method for Kiosk Check-In is a secured standalone tablet at your front desk.

The Patient Check-In Experience

When a patient approaches the kiosk device, they see a TAP TO CHECK-IN button. Patients who prefer to use their own phone can scan the QR code displayed on screen instead — both options lead to the same check-in flow.

After tapping or scanning, the patient is prompted to locate their appointment:
  1. Enter first name and last initial.
  2. Select the green FIND APPOINTMENT button.

If a patient can’t locate their appointment through the name search, they can select VIEW ALL APPOINTMENTS to browse the day’s schedule.

Complete Intake Forms

Patients can complete queued intake forms — registration, health questionnaire, consent forms — directly from the check-in flow by scanning the QR code displayed after checking in. Completed forms automatically write back to the patient’s demographics and case record in StrataEMR.

Collect Payment at the Kiosk

After a patient checks in, they can access the payment portal by scanning a QR code displayed on the kiosk screen. This takes them directly to their balance and payment options on their own device. Balance information will only be displayed if the patient has an existing balance or copay to pay.

Exit Kiosk Mode

To return the device to full StrataEMR access, close the browser window and log back in with your staff credentials from the StrataEMR homepage.
